Malaysian High Commissioner called on Telecom Minister
Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Hajnah Mohammad Hashim paid a courtesy call on Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar. She met the telecom minister virtually on Tuesday evening.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest, especially investment in the telecommunications sector.
The minister described Malaysia as a genuine and tested friend of Bangladesh and said that Malaysia's role in various issues including Rohingya issue in the national and international arena was very inspiring. He mentioned that the Malaysian state-owned company IDTCO, including Robi Axiata, is making a huge contribution in the telecom sector in Bangladesh. He thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for Malaysia's investment in various sectors, including the digital infrastructure sector, in implementing the Digital Bangladesh program. Mr. Mostafa Jabbar, a pioneer in the development of computer technology, hopes that Malaysia will come forward with more investment in the coming days by implementing the investment-friendly policy of the government. He commended the Malaysian government and people for Malaysia's contribution to the telecom sector.
Referring to Malaysia as the first Muslim country in Asia to recognize independent Bangladesh, High Commissioner Hajnah Hashim said Malaysia is very proud of its excellent relations with Bangladesh. Referring to Bangabandhu's visit to Malaysia, she said Malaysia started its first investment journey in the telecom sector in 1996. Following this, the state-owned company IDTCO invested in the telecom sector in 2018. He drew the attention of the Minister to some issues including SMP. The Minister assured all possible cooperation on these issues.
